ATG 40th Anniversary Year Awards November 2008

The 2008 Awards Evening was a swinging success as usual, and the Gee and her Awards committee worked tirelessly to put on a fabulous meal, and turn the hall into a venue fit for such a prestigious event.

And the winners were…

  • Best Actor - Roger Bennett – For The Waiter in Dish of the Day
  • Best Actress - Ali Morris – For Joyce in The Fat Lady Sings on Warlingham Green and Miss Tweed in Something’s Afoot
  • Best Supporting Actor - Dominic Binefa – For Dr Grayburn in Something’s Afoot
  • Best Supporting Actress - Ellie Driscoll – For Ellie McPherson in Spin to Win
  • Best Director - Jeremy Nicholls – For Return to the Forbidden Planet
  • The Grimwood Award - Shep Crampton – For her set design in Bedroom Farce and Something’s Afoot
  • The Wooderson Award - Jill Maynard -  For always being there and for being a fantastic chairman and production manager
  • The Davison Award - Peggy Robinson - for her fantastic prompting of many many productions and for always being around and helping out
  • Best Get Out of That / Best Cock Up / Best Cover Up - The sound, lighting and backstage team on Money! Money! Money!  - For the spectacular recovery when equipment was stolen during the break in at the hall

And we had some fantastic cabaret performances to entertain us between courses….

Keith and Gabi got us off to a fine start with their performance of Let’s Face The Music and Dance.

Then Gabi swallowed her nerves and braved the stage again when she and Christine gave a fantastic performance of Loathing from Wicked.

Against their better judgement Ellie, Angela, Nicky H and Louise performed a hilarious rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody – curry style!

Gee and Debs made us all giggle with their version of French and Saunders’ ballerina sketch.

And then Jay rounded off proceedings with his ever-changing ATG Anthem which had a couple of new verses written especially for the evening and had everyone singing along.

All in all it was another brilliant evening, and a celebration of the productions of the past two years, and 40 years of ATG.  We’re all looking forward to the 2010 Awards!
